11-3-09 Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined IAM representatives and members of Local 1400 at Voith Hydro in York, PA.

Pennsylvania Governor Ed Rendell joined IAM representatives and members of Local 1400 at Voith Hydro in York, PA, to unveil a report intended to steer the U.S. towards the creation of 700,000 family-supporting jobs by 2025.

According to the study, the U.S. hydropower industry could install between 23,000 megawatts and 60,000 megawatts of additional capacity by 2025, or enough to generate electricity for 31 million additional homes.

“Hydro power is already a great source of renewable energy,” said IAM National Representative Jim Lauter. “Voith Hydro and the hydro power industry is also an important source of good paying jobs.”

Voith Hydro has hired nearly 200 new employees since 2007, a 27 percent increase and the study estimates the future hydropower job creation would be nearly three times higher if renewable energy grows from 10 percent of national electricity supply to 25 percent.

11-3-09 Local Lodge 1400 - Voith Hydro Power Generation, Inc. - York ratified a new three (3) year contract

The members of Local Lodge 1400 employed by Voith Hydro Power Generation, Inc. - York, PA voted in September to approve a new three (3) year labor agreement.

The agreement  improves wages in each year of the agreement. Improvements were made to fringe benefits also. The company and union negotiating committees worked very hard to address some very difficult issues involving their job classifications and hours of work that needed to be resolved due to the expanding and changing business opportunities at the Voith Hydro plant. Both sides communicated their positions and worked to resolve the issues in the best interests of both the employees and the company. When both sides communicate and respect each others' positions on how to build the York Division of Voith both the company and the union workers can grow. Everybody on both sides of the table can earn a better living.

This was newly elected Business Representative Randy Jones second contract he negotiated since becoming a Business Representative for District Lodge 98.
